What do you get for $160,140?

The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140 for a middle income family. Talk about sticker shock! That doesn't even touch college tuition. But $160,140 isn't so bad if you break it down. It translates into $8,896.66 a year, $741.38 a month, or $171.08 a week. That's a mere $24.24 a day. Just over a dollar an hour. Still, you might think the best financial advice is don't have children if you want to be "Rich".

Actually, it is just the opposite. What do you get for $160,140?
Naming rights. First, Middle and Last
Glimpses of God every day.
Giggles under the covers every night.
More love than your heart can hold
Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.
Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds and warm cookies
A hand to hold, usually covered with jelly or chocolate.
A partner for blowing bubbles, flying kites, building sandcastles and skipping down the sidewalk in the pouring rain.
Someone to laugh yourself silly with, no matter what the boss said or how your stocks performed that day.
For $160,140 you never have to grown up.
You get to finger-paint, carvepumpkins, play hide-and-seek, catch lightning bugs, and never stopbelieving in Santa Claus.
You have an excuse to keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh, watching Saturday morning cartoons, going to Disney movies, and wishingon stars.
You get to frame rainbows, hearts and flowers under refigerator magnet
sand collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set inclay for Mothers Day and cards with backward letters for Father's Day.
For $160,140 there is no greater bang for your buck,
You get to be a hero just for retrieving the frisbee off the garage roof, taking the trainingwheels off a bike, removing a splinter, filling a wading pool, coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs and coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless.
You get a front row seat of history to witness the first steps, first word, first bra, first date and first time behind the wheel.
You get the be immortal.
You get another branch added to your family tree, and if you're lucky, along list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications, and human sexuality that no college can match.
In the eyes of a child, your right up there under God.You have the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the mosters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits, so... one day they will, like you,
love without counting the cost.
Enjoy your kids and grandkids!

Thanksgiving with friends

Every year we get together to have thanksgiving dinner. This year there were little ones there which made it pretty fun too. It was great to see everyone and get caught up. And I missed those who could not make it, hopefully next year!!!! Unfortunately I forgot to take any pictures until the end and some people had already left

Slacker!

I know I have been a slacker lately but here are a few post sorry they are out of order! I am also still waiting for my Halloween pictures. I left my camera at home so they were all taken with my moms. As soon as she e-mails them to me I will have them up :)

Third times the charm!

Finally! The elusive (for Dave and I anyway) Fifth water hot springs! After three attempts we make it. After testing out the water, I take Emmy out of the backpack to change her into her swimming suite. As I am pulling her out I realize that she has very runny poop smeared all the way up her back!!! I mean all the way! It was disgusting! It took Dave and I a while to get her all cleaned up, but her onesie was a lost cause! There was no way that thing was ever going to be clean! Then there was the issue about how to pack it out of there, neither of us wanted to carry that nasty thing all the way back with us, so we berried it.
Now that we had that all taken care of we are finally able to relax and enjoy ourselves. The pools have varying degrees of temperatures. One is way too hot to even think about going into, a couple are hot tub hot, and then there is one that's like bath water hot. That is the one we sat in because we had Emmy with us, who loved it!
After about a half hour of relaxation another guy comes along with his dog to get in the pool just above ours. He says hi to us as he takes off his pack and shoes, then his shorts, and then everything else!!!! Yeah I guess a lot of nudist like to hike up there as well. luckily we had had our feel of the hot springs and were ready to take off!.
Aside from the nudist it was a beautiful and well worth the hike.

second attempt!

So this was our second attempt to find the fifth water hot springs up Spanish Fork canyon. We don't have any pictures of our first attempt but it was about a year earlier, we tried to take a short cut and ended up hiking for 2 1/2 hours and never finding anything!
This time we decided to just go the long way and thought for sure we would make it! No we didn't. Again we hiked and hiked forever and still found nothing! Finally we saw some bikers on the trail and they told us we took the wrong fork way back at the beginning!
Although we did not reach our destination it was still a beautiful hike.
